Guideposts on Your Way to Retirement

If you take a cross-country road trip (which I’ve done quite a few times), it’s good to have guideposts to make sure you’re on the right path. For instance, if you’re driving from Santa Monica, CA to Orlando, FL and you see the “Welcome to Wyoming” sign, you know you’re on the wrong path. However, if you’re passing over the Causeway in Mobile, AL, you know you’re on the right track and getting closer to your destination.
Planning for retirement is a long haul – similar to driving across the country from coast to coast. And while it is nearly impossible to plan for every bump, twist and turn along the way, there are checkpoints that you can use to help make sure you’re on the right track towards a successful retirement. This article lays out 5 markers or guideposts that you can use to see just how prepared you are to enter retirement. Keep in mind that it’s never too early to start planning for retirement, and I don’t know anyone who has said they were over prepared and had saved too much money for retirement.
